Welcome to our new P2/3/4 class of 2019- 2020!
This term we are very excited to be studying Birds and Flight, which the class have helped plan. They have lots of questions that they would like to find answers to, so if you have anything to support our learning about Birds and Flight that could be borrowed until the October holidays, that would be fantastic.
We have got off to a wonderful start learning about the features that all birds have along with some interesting scientific words. In conjunction with our taught lessons, the Learning Zones are also based around aspects of Birds and Flight. The children really enjoy the Learning Zones because they can explore our topics through play.
We will also be learning about friendship in Health and Wellbeing and invasion game skills in P.E.
Could you please ensure that you have checked that your child’s P.E kit fits and that they have everything they need i.e. shorts, house t-shirt, socks, gym shoes/trainers, tracksuit bottoms/leggings and a jumper. Can any child with long hair please come prepared with hair tied back and earrings either covered with tape or taken out on our P.E. days. The class has P.E on a Thursday and Friday afternoon. When possible we will be outside so an outside P.E kit is essential.
At the start of the school year the whole class discussed their rights as a member of our class and created a class charter (class rules) under the headings READY, RESPECTEFUL and SAFE. It is displayed in the classroom and a smaller one is stuck in their homework jotters. The class has also created a class charter for myself!
We have begun a Recognition Board to promote positivity in the class where children who make a good decision, show a growth mindset, be kind or are nominated by a peer, with a reason, will have their name displayed. If their name has been displayed three times, they will receive a small prize. We are all working very hard to make good choices and this is creating a positive ethos in our classroom. The three times system might only be in place for one term so we will discuss what we would like to do to modify it for next term.
Hopefully there should be a tweet about an activity we undertake each day, so please keep checking our twitter feed.
Homework is issued on a Tuesday and handed in on Monday. All work that comes home has been covered in class so understanding should be clear; however they can ask in class for help at any time. Please support your child with homework, and if it is not completed, please still send it in on the Monday so the class new sheet can be stuck in. Reading books and records ( or cards) will be in bags soon so please check what day reading is for. Also if you can read with your child to support them and sign their reading record once it has been completed.
I am really looking forward to our year together and if there are any questions, please don't hesitate to ask!
