Term 1

Interdisciplinary Topic

This term we are very excited to be learning about Mary, Queen of Scots.

We have got off to a wonderful start, discussing what we already know, think we know, and what we want to know.

As part of our topic, in Health and Wellbeing, we will be learning about foods from the Tudor period as well as trying out their dances in P.E. We will also be learning about clothing in the Tudor period and the children are already fascinated by what the boys wore.

It would be fantastic if any resources relating to this topic and the Tudor period eg. books, which you have at home, could be borrowed by P4/5/6 until the October holiday.

P.E

Could you please ensure that you have checked that your child’s P.E kit fits and that they have everything they need i.e. shorts, t-shirt, socks, gym shoes/trainers, tracksuit bottoms/leggings and a jumper. The class has P.E on a Tuesday and Wednesday and, when possible, we will be outside so an outside P.E kit is essential, preferably to include a light waterproof jacket.

Classroom System

At the start of the school year the whole class created their own class charter (class rules) and these are supported by the Good to be Green whole school system. Together with the Good to be Green whole school system the class put forward, and voted for, a P4/5/6 behaviour management system which is a behaviour ladder. Each child will work their way up the ladder with good choices (they can also fall back on the ladder) and once they reach the top there will be a small prize.

The children are already working hard to make good choices and this is creating a positive ethos in our classroom.

Wonder by R.J. Palacio.

With Mrs Kinninmonth on a Friday P4/5/6 have been reading the novel Wonder by R.J. Palacio.  The children have been enjoying listening to the book and have had some WONDERful conversations about the themes which link into our Health and Wellbeing about Friendship and our RME topic looking at Morals. As a result from our discussions P4/5/6 would like to encourage everyone to CHOOSE KIND.
